Exhibition of works of the artist in Washington is supported by the Embassy of the Russian Federation in the United States.

Nicholas Timka was born to a peasant family in the Rostov region, shortly before the October Revolution. He grew up in a small village near Rostov-on-Don, and a lifetime love of rural life and nature. This feeling is always reflected in his works. He skillfully engrave in bright colors, small villages, winter landscapes, Uralic and Crimean mountains. His creative way the artist began in Rostov, but later moved to Moscow and then in Leningrad, where he graduated LIZHSA. Repin. During the Second World War he served in the navy, took part in the defense of Leningrad during the blockade and bombardment. His little sketches of the besieged city, made on small scraps of paper and cardboard - one of the first works in which it was noticeably attentive and at the same time lyrical attitude to the world.

Start artistic career Timkova time coincided with the formation of socialist realism, demanded from the artists to portray «reality of revolutionary Russia». Back then, many authors have turned to landscape painting in order to avoid open political propaganda and the glorification of the Soviet leaders. However, unlike many of his colleagues, are often included in their work relevant genre motifs Timka was exclusively a landscape in its pure form. Therefore, despite the fact that Nicholas Efimovich was a member of the Union of Artists and has participated in many exhibitions, he was not awarded such a wide recognition and praise, as his colleagues, his works are translated into the ideals of socialism and communism.

One of the curators of the exhibition, Dr. Alison Hilton (Alison Hilton), which deals with the history of Russian art, and also heads the department of art and art history at Georgetown University, noted: «It is difficult to name any artists working in the middle XX century, which would be consistent with such regularity, fertility and depth of character of the surrounding world ». According to the doctor Hylton, painting Timkova very vividly expresses his close relationship with their native land, and at the same time, she always leaves the audience space to their own experiences, feelings and sensations.
