During this period he made his most famous photographs - «torpedo boats and seaplanes» ( «Kvadrat 69»), «On guard», «Torpedist». Removing scenes of the Baltic Fleet, Khalip done entirely peaceful photo. One of them, «Boats in the Gulf of Finland», brought him medals at international photographer.

In 1938, Yakov Khalip participated in the expedition to rescue the polar station SP-1 and from the board of the icebreaker passed a series of essays that were printed in national newspapers, including the «truth». In the same year, the number of members of the expedition, he was invited to a reception at the Kremlin, where he met with Stalin, which allowed the photographer to make his shot. The next day the photo «Stalin among heroes-papanintsev» appeared on the «Truth».

In 1941, Jacob Khalip appointed editor of the magazine «USSR in construction», but with the start of World War II edition of the magazine has been suspended. Yakov Khalip became a military correspondent and joined to the Editorial «Red Star» and Sovinformbyuro. In these tough years for the country he was shooting on the front nine - in the besieged Odessa, Sevastopol, Murmansk, Vyazma, Vilnius.

After the war, the photographer had difficulties with employment: this was the time of the fight against «cosmopolitanism». Khalip freelance shooting for «lights», «Shifts»; like many photographers, he worked in fotoizdate VDNKh, taken for any work until the filming of species of cards. And only in 1954, after Stalin's death Yakov Nikolaevich became employee magazine «The Soviet Union» - a successor to the legendary «USSR in construction». The magazine photographer worked until his death.

Journal «The Soviet Union» rather quickly turned into a showcase «Soviet way of life», and Yakov Khalip, together with colleagues highlights the achievements of socialism. Yakov Khalip left a vast archive of negatives and photographs. His works are currently in the collections of many museums and photo galleries of Europe and America, regularly appearing in international auctions.
