Contemporary Russian art was born in a situation of «cultural underground», and until the era of perestroika has developed in opposition to official art. In 1970 in the underground art form such innovative areas as Moscow Conceptualism and Sots Art ».

It is the similarities and contradictions of these two trends in Russian art end of XX - beginning of XXI century, formed the basis for exposure Kunsthistorisches Museum. On the one hand, the exhibition will feature spectacular work of artists who are considered to movement of social art, absorbed the traditions of American pop art. This is a picture of Vitaly Komar and Alexander Melamid, Konstantin Zvezdochetova, assemblage and sculpture by Alexander Kosolapov Boris Orlov. On the other hand, the exhibit includes the work of the so-called classics of Moscow Conceptualism - Andrew Monastyrsky, Yuri Albert, Vadim Zakharov, where the image is only a secondary role to the basic idea of the artist.

The holding of this exhibition was made possible through the Stella Art Foundation - a nonprofit organization founded in November 2004. Its purpose is to support Russian art and culture, as well as displaying a complex dialogue between the Russian and Western conceptual art.
