«Shelter» in the turbine hall of Tate Modern
In the British Museum opened the installation of French artist Dominique Gonzalez-Forster. She submitted that the famous Turbine Hall - a place where residents of London's future will save from the apocalypse
What are we going to do if suddenly нежданно-негаданно gryanet apocalypse? Each year, writers, artists, filmmakers and other artists present us with their fantasies about this topic. 43-year-old French artist Dominique Gonzalez-Forster (Dominique Gonzalez-Forester) has tried to imagine what would happen if the Turbine Hall of Tate Modern gallery will become a refuge, where people would hide from the terrible rain.
Tate Modern has long become a platform for the most daring artistic experimentation. Each year, Unilever is providing 400 thousand pounds a famous artist so that he took advantage of the famous Turbine Hall as he pleases. And with each year of mega-installations that appear in the museum, are «all chudesatee and chudesatee». Just remember a giant artificial sun Olafur Eliasson (Olafur Eliasson), half fill entire Turbine Hall to light. Or spiral «hill» Carsten Heller (Carsten Höller), which could be a really ride. Or, threatening cracks in the floor of authorship Doris Salcedo (Doris Salcedo), symbolizing one of the main problems of this world - racism. Installation Gonzalez-Forster is not it funny how the works Eliasson and Heller. As the project Salcedo, it raises questions about the problems of the world in which we live.
So, «action» French installation artist is happening in 2058. In the turbine hall of Tate Modern city dwellers fleeing the continuing rain. This rain spider sculpture work Louise Bourgeois (Louise Bourgeois) and flamingos Kaldera Alexander (Alexander Calder) also hidden in the refuge, mutated and grown over 25 times. In the turbine hall are copies of these and other sculptures, as well as 200 double-decker beds, each of which lies on the book «apocalyptic» theme - from the «War Worlds» HG Wells (Herbert Wells) to «sank the world», James Ballard (James Ballard) . On the wall hangs a huge screen, which shows scenes of the films of Andrei Tarkovsky, Roman Polanski (Roman Polanski) and other directors. Installation accompany the sounds of dripping water and the sad music of Arto Lindsay (Arto Lindsay).
When creating the installation, called TH.2058, Dominique Gonzalez-Forster remembered the terrorist attacks in London on 7 July 2005 and the Nazi bombing of England. It inspired the famous drawings by Henry Moore (Henry Moore), which depicts the inhabitants of London, hides from the bombs in the subway. She does not believe his work pessimistic: «We are now in the zone of turbulence - pristegnite safety belts».
Creation Gonzalez-Forster, one of the main elements of which are sculptures, mutants, perfectly fits in a funny trend, which implies a different manipulation of the famous works of art and placing them in an unexpected context. Opening its installation nearly coincided with the premiere of Performance Drama Queens Theater in London's Old Vic, where talk and dance Koons sculpture (Jeff Koons) and Giacometti (Alberto Giacometti) . The English painter and teacher Materials Zoui Laflin (Zoe Laughlin) «raised» Dyubyuffe picture of Jean (Jean Dubuffet) different noises, which issued its constituent materials. Samah, Dominique Gonzalez-Forster in the past year has created in the German city of Munster «playground», which were presented to the small copies of famous sculptures, including a mini-sculptures of Richard Serra (Richard Serra) . How ironic notes Guardian columnist Adrian Serl (Adrian Searle), we will not rest until you see a picture of crying Rothko (Mark Rothko ) and vopyat pain pictures Bacon (Francis Bacon).
Installation Dominique Gonzalez-Forster will be on display in the turbine hall until April 13, 2009.
