4 September in the Spanish Zaragoza opens exhibition of works of the great Spanish painter El Greco (El Greco). It was prepared with the support of Caja Castilla-La Mancha and the Ministry of Culture of Spain. The exhibition is housed in a newly renovated room Paraninfo University of Zaragoza, and includes 27 paintings artists El Greco and his workshop. All the pictures - including the fascinating series of portraits of the brothers Covarrubias (Covarrubias), son of architect who built the toledsky Cathedral - providing the public and private collections in the city of Toledo.

El Greco (real name artist - Domenikos Teotokopulos) was born in 1541 in Crete, which at that time was part of the Venetian Republic. In the age of 26 he went to Venice, and in 1570 moved to Rome, where he opened a studio. Length of stay in Italy, El Greco enriched the style elements of Mannerism and the Venetian Renaissance. In 1577 the artist moved to Spain, in Toledo, where he lived and worked until his death. It was in Toledo, El Greco was the largest orders and wrote his most famous paintings.

It's amazing dramatic and expressive style of El Greco was not always clear to his contemporaries, but has been widely accepted in the XX century. El Greco is considered a precursor such as expressionism and cubism, and his life and work have become a source of inspiration for poets and writers - in particular, he hit Rainer Maria Rilke (Rainer Maria Rilke), and Nicos Kazandzakis (Nikos Kazantzakis). Modern scholars recognize that the style of El Greco, combining the traditions of Byzantine and European art, so unique that it can not be attributed to any of the traditional school.
