September 11, Tate Britain Gallery opens exhibition of works by Francis Bacon (Francis Bacon). It will be one of the first events held in connection with the celebration of the centennial of the artist in 2009. This is the first retrospective of the master in Britain since 1985, which would overestimate his legacy in light of new studies conducted after the death of the artist. The exhibition will be presented about 60 works by Bacon. It will combine the most important works, the artists at different times. To date, this will be the largest exhibition that gives a full picture of the origins and development of creativity Bacon, his thoughts and ideas.
Francis Bacon is rightly considered one of the brightest figures in the painting of the XX century. His paintings of 1940-ies, reflecting the difficult psychological atmosphere of the time, brought him fame, which is not quenched, and to this day. He was able to reflect sexuality, talk about violence and loneliness, anxieties and problems of modern society to him.
The exhibition illustrates the philosophical views of Bacon. The artist believed that the people - this is just an animal in this godless world, subject to such a natural craving, like violence, passion and fear, which includes its physical structure. The exhibition can be seen several famous paintings and triptychs including «Three studies of figures at the base of Crucifixion» (1944), essay on the theme «Portrait of Pope John X» Velasquez (1953), «Crucifixion» (1965) and «In Memory of George Dyer »(1971).
Francis Bacon was born in 1909 in Dublin. His parents were British. Before the war he lived in London, Berlin and Paris. Initially he worked as a designer of interiors, and in 1928 began studying painting. His early works, written before the war, he destroyed. New point of departure in his work was the work of «Three studies of figures at the base of Crucifixion», which first exhibited in 1945 at the gallery «Lefevre» and made a sensation. Soon, Bacon is recognized as one of the most outstanding artists of his generation. He represented Britain at the Venice Biennale in 1954, his retrospective exhibition held at the Tate Gallery (1962, 1985), in the Grand Palais (Grand Palais), Paris (1971) and the Museum of Modern Art in New York (1989).
