Images of water - one of the most popular subjects of Russian art from the XVIII century and the present. Seas, oceans, rivers, lakes, streams, fountains, waterfalls for the artists were not just a beautiful motive. Turbulent or quiet, funny or sad, the water on the paintings and drawings by masters of XVIII-XXI centuries always reflects the mood or state sponsors, era, of a moment of life and history of the country.
The exhibition will include about 200 paintings, sculptures and graphic works.
«The exhibition, which will consist of two parts, will talk about water in the mythology, legends, fairy tales. Visitors will see the painting, drawing, sculpture and installation, which will complement the Video », - stated in a press release the Museum.
Russian masters of XVIII - first half of XX century, whose works included in the exhibit - Ivan Aivazovsky, Ilya Repin, Konstantin Korovin, Boris Kustodiev, Vasily Surikov, Kuzma Petrov-Vodkin.
Visitors can get acquainted with the art and contemporary artists of St. Petersburg, Siberia, Nizhny Novgorod. «Many of these artists not yet in the Russian Museum, and some of the young artists will be opening for the spectator», - noted in the museum.
The exhibition will run until November 11, 2008.
