In the Marble Palace in Saint Petersburg has passed the opening of the exhibition, organized by auction house Christie's, in cooperation with the Russian museum and dedicated to the 12 th Saint Petersburg International Economic Forum.

«From Watteau to Monet» - Seventeen of masterpieces of world art, held in private collections, specially chosen for display in the northern capital.

The exhibition - the work of old masters: Antonis van Dyck, George Stubbs, Thomas Lawrence, Jan van Goyena and Jan Bruegel «velvet» - the son of the great Pieter Bruegel, as well as expressive compilation of the major masters of impressionist paintings - Claude Monet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Camille Pissarro, Henri Toulouse-Lautrec.

One of the major masterpieces of the exhibition is considered painting by Antoine Watteau «surprise». This canvas, written in 1700, more than two hundred years believed lost, it was known only by copies and engravings. Only last year, Christie's experts discovered it in a private house in England.

Also, in St. Petersburg and brought the best representatives of Dutch painting. Submitted picture «Large forest landscape with figures of travelers and peasants», written in 1619 Flemish painter, Jan Bruegel «Velvet» and two paintings by Jan van Goyena, which are considered the ideal example of the Dutch art of small XVII century.

Visitors will be able to see «Pines in Varanzhvile» and «Sunset in Lavakure» Claude Monet, Pierre-Auguste canvas Renoir «Vase with Flowers», the work of Camille Pissarro «Edge of the forest», exhibited at the fourth exhibition of Impressionist paintings in Paris in 1879.

Bright scene from the life of the Parisian demi is a «Un ballo in maschera in Eliza-Montmartre», written by Henri Toulouse-Lautrec, the famous «chronicler» Paris kafeshantanov and music halls. Attract attention, and two works of René Magritte, who are at the direction of surrealism - the mysterious paintings, «Composition on the sea shore» and «Utopia», are filled with unresolved symbols.

The display is housed in a white room the Marble Palace.
