In the United States Boston, Massachusetts, are just two exhibitions devoted to Spanish art: «From El Greco to Velazquez: Art at the court of King Philip III» and a retrospective of works of contemporary Spanish realist Antonio Lopez Garcia. Both exhibitions will last until July 27, 2008.

The exhibition devoted to Spanish art of the era of the board of Philip III (1598-1621), represented by the entire sixty works, including eleven works of El Greco and seven - Velasquez. In addition to the two most famous paintings by Spanish masters of the late XVI - the beginning of the XVII century, displaying the work of their contemporaries who worked in the Spanish Courtyard.

A short but very brilliant period of King Philip III was the same time period and the heyday of the nation as a whole, and the Spanish art. At this time, a «new majestic style» (trend continues and at the same time different from the style of the era of Philip II), expressed in paintings, sculptures and decorative art. From the style of the times of Philip II the new art is great naturalism and emotional expressiveness.

It is in this context of completed works of El Greco, as well as early Velasquez - against the backdrop of contemporary portraits of him, court scenes, works of religious art and the emerging still-life.

The exhibits were brought from museums all over the world, especially from Madrid Prado.
