Russian theater in the auction house "KABINET"

up For auction No. 36 (97) exhibited 50 sketches Mstislav Dobuzhinsky (1875-1957) — eminent painter, graphic artist and theater actor, Illustrator, critic and memoirist.
particularly noteworthy are the works created by I fear nothing for the Lithuanian state theatre in Kaunas. From 1931 to 1939 he was the chief artist of the theater and made 38 performances. In 1931 he staged the Opera Gounod's "Faust". F. I. Chaliapin, who performed in the play the role of Mephistopheles, celebrated the outstanding success of the Opera, "just as in Russia the past time". In the auction catalogue — costumes of Mephistopheles, Valentine, Margaret, and a series of quirky characters from scene Walpurgis night, referring to the paintings of Hieronymus Bosch.
In 1939 Dobuzhinsky moved to the USA to work on a play based on the novel F. M. Dostoevsky "Demons" with Mikhail Chekhov in the leading role. Among the top-лотов auction — expressive sketch of the costumes of Lisa and Stavrogin for this production.
In 1942, Dobuzhinsky executed scenery for the ballet "Russian soldier" to the music of the Symphonic Suite by Sergei Prokofiev "Lieutenant kije" (1934). It was staged by Mikhail Fokine libretto on his own and dedicated it to "the brave Russian soldiers of the second world war." The ballet was the last show of the choreographer, performed with his life on the stage of musical theater. For the first time in the history of ballet in the performance we used two scenes for a simultaneous presentation of two time-schedules. The auction includes sketches of scenery and costumes for the ballet.
Connoisseurs and collectors of art Dobuzhinsky will also be interesting work created by the artist for performances of the Metropolitan Opera in new-Йорке: the scenery for the Opera "Ball-маскарад" (1940), "the Love for three oranges" (1949), sketches of costumes for the ballet "Mademoiselle Angot" to the music by Lecocq S. together with I. F. Massine (1943, again in 1946), Opera "Khovanshchina" (1948-1949), Wozzeck (1952) and "Boris Godunov" (1953).
In the collection of the auction — sketches of costumes and sets by Konstantin Korovin (1862-1939), Tatiana Bruni (1902-2001), Peter Lambina (1862-1923), Mstislav Sarovskogo (1896-1968), Yuri Annenkov (1889-1974), Valentina Khodasevich (1894-1970).
