This work promises to become the top lot of the auction Sothеby''s "the Art of impressionism and modernism", which will be held in London on 24 June. Estimate Manet's paintings is £15-20 mln@
Edouard Manet was often in Paris variety show "the Folies Bergere". In 1881 he wrote the first version of the painting with his friend the bartender Anyway — her eyes turned to the client, coming up to the bar for drinks. Subsequently, when Manet already wrote the final version of the painting, he decided to make work more meaningful: now Suzon looked straight at the viewer, while the mirror showed her in a completely different perspective — talking with the same buyer. In her eyes appeared sad loneliness among the festive crowd. The second version, 1882, kept at London's Courtauld Institute of art, but specifically at the request of Sotheby's both versions for some time were shown together in the National gallery. This allowed to clearly see how a masterpiece was born from fast, free brush strokes and directed in the same direction as the model for the first version to the more developed the second version with the bartender, looking straight in the eye tritely@
First version of the "Bar in the "Folies bergère"" was kept in the collection of Edouard Manet until his death. Then the picture got to the famous patron of the Impressionists Paul Durand-Ruelle. In 1905 was showcased at the exhibition, designed to acquaint the British public with the art of impressionism. This is one of the most significant works of Manet, still privately owned rukah@
