After the auction house Christie's has announced the top lots of its future auctions of postwar and contemporary art on November 12, among whom were 's"balloon dog (Orange)" by Jeff Koons for 35-55 million dollars and the picture Andy Warhol's "Coca-Cola (3)" 40-60 million, his main rival, Sotheby's, tried to reply on the same level. Top-lot auction by Sotheby's on November 13 will be silkscreen Andy Warhol's "Silver car crash (Double fault)" from the famous series "Death and disaster".
"Silver car crash (Double fault)" is part of a series of four two-part Warhol in 1963 with a picture of a car accident. The artist used images of road accidents from Newspapers that are repeatedly printed on canvas by screen printing using a silver reflective paint. The work reaches a size of 2.4 x 4 meters; one half — multiple image car crashed into a tree; the second part is monochrome silver poverhnosti@
"the Monumentality of the image is striking, says Tobias Meyer, Director of contemporary art at Sotheby's. Like life and death right in front of you; Warhol contrasts the stages of death the emptiness of the right half of the picture".
Though the catalog estimate "Silver car crash" is not specified, Tobias Meyer said that he hopes for a Babysitting in the range from 60 to 80 million dollars. Such a high estimate is due to the rarity of the work: the other three of the series are stored in museums, and only "Silver car crash" remains in private hands. The work has excellent provenance: she had been in the collection of Gunter Sachs (Gunter Sachs), Charles Saatchi (Charles Saatchi) and Thomas Ammann (Thomas Ammann). Now the thing sells private European collector, who owned it for over 20 let@
Another work from the series "Death and disaster" — the "Green car crash (Burning green machine — 1)", also 1963, but a smaller format 2007 is the most expensive creations by Andy Warhol sold at public auction. At auction Christie's for "Green car crash" paid 71.7 million dollars. In our rating of the most successful auction sales of art in the entire history of this work at 11th place.
