Picture of Edward Coley Burne-Jones earned nearly 15 million pounds at Christie's

Result auction of Victorian and British Impressionist , held July 11 at Christie's, was 22.2 million pounds. This is the highest price up for bidding in this category. It has sold 58%of the lots (93%- in monetary terms). Set 10 new personal records. Top-lot auction was a masterpiece by Sir Edward Coley Burne-Jones's "Love Among the Ruins", which went under the hammer for 14.84 million pounds (22.4 million dollars). It is now the most expensive work of Coley Burne-Jones and the most expensive work of the Pre-Raphaelite painting, sold at public auction.
Peter Brown, International Director of the Department of Victorian and British Impressionist and Heriett Drummond, Director of International British drawings and watercolors, "The market works by British art continues to grow, attracting more international buyers - mainly from the U.S., Russia and Asia. We are also pleased with the fact that watercolor Burne-Jones became the most expensive work in this category ever sold at auction ».
Another top lot of the auction was the painting by Sir John Everett Millet's "Sisters" gone under the hammer for a record for the artist 2.3 million pounds. Both paintings have become top-lots of trades, visited the spring exhibition at Christie's in Moscow in April.
