Written in 1994, the painting by Peter Doig "berth" was in a private collection since its inception (estimate 4-6 million pounds). On the creation of this monumental landscape Doig pushed tourist card with a picture of the Canadian Cameron Lake (Alberta). Despite the figurative compositions, "Berth" tends toward abstraction and is a reflection of how we see the world around us and remember. Doig himself formulates his attitude to this approach: "I'm not trying to depict real places, I just painted scenery. Maybe that's why in my work no time and place as any. " It should also be noted that the "Jetty" refers to the period when the artist was nominated for the Turner Prize in 1994. Works of this period today is widely recognized as the peak of his career.
