The auction of Impressionist and Modern auction house Bonhams in London on February 5 exhibits works by Fernand Leger (1881-1955) from the collection of the Soviet actress Lyudmila Kasatkina (1925-2012). Graphic "Composition with four figures (poster calling for an end to the use of biological weapons)" was presented personally Kasatkina artist at a reception at the Soviet Embassy in Paris in 1955. Since then, the poster did not leave the meeting actress. At the auction, he put up with the estimate 70-100 thousand pounds.
Fernand Leger was an active promoter of the world: was involved in pacifist exhibitions in France, went to the World Peace Congress in Poland, was a member of peace movement and the Communist Party of France. The horrors of war Leger knew firsthand: in the First World in the post stretcher-bearer, he had seen enough for plenty of blood and death, which certainly influenced its emergence as a pacifist. The struggle for peace is one of the most important in the work of Leger. As exhibited at Bonhams poster artist, in particular, is a call to end the use of biological weapons, the threat of which in the Cold War, it is very worried. The two central figures compositions embody the reconciliation of people of different races. In their hands they held up signs "for disarmament" and a flower - a symbol of peace. At their feet lay a woman with a lifeless baby. Whether it is an innocent victim, or a bad omen for the future of humanity in the event that peace will not be restored.
