Museum items for autumn auctions

This fall, two famous American Museum decided to auction works from their collections . The Brooklyn Museum has decided to auction a relief sponges Yves Klein, and the Cleveland Museum of Art - painting "Wheat Field" by Claude Monet. Recall that according to the instructions by the American Association of Museum Directors, the money from the sale of museum exhibits can not be spent on operational needs and should go only to replenish the museum collections of new works.

«Blue Accord »(« Accord Bleu ») in 1958 - one of the first reliefs of French artist Yves Klein using sponges. This comparatively small preparatory work has been a model for a grand 10-meter relief, which Yves Klein created for the Gelsenkirchen Opera. "Blue chord" in 1960, acquired in a Paris gallery Rive Droite collector William Jacobs (William K. Jacobs). In 1992, under the will of the owner work went to the Brooklyn Museum. However, in 20 years of ownership relief management was able to put the work only once - it was too far from the subject of museum collections. Therefore it was decided to sell the work, and use the proceeds to create a fund for the purchase of new works. "Blue chord" will appear in the auction of contemporary and postwar art at Christie's in New York on 14 November with an estimate of 10.7 million.

Landscape "Wheat Field" refers to 1881, the time when Claude Monet lived in Vetheuil. The artist depicted the fields located on the other bank of the Seine Lavakur village. Most of the works in this series have been launched by Monet in the open air, and will end in the studio. The collection of the Cleveland Museum of Art, this picture came in 1947, along with other work by Monet. The decision to sell the same as in the case of the Brooklyn relief Klein, was dictated by material considerations: the museum wanted to gain funds for the completion of his collection of European painting and sculpture of the twentieth century. At the Cleveland Museum of Art will remain for five works by Claude Monet, so that the sale of "wheat field" members of the board of trustees voted unanimously. Landscape appears on the Sotheby's November 5 in New York City with an estimate of 5-7 million dollars.
