Christie's won the Middle East

The company expects that over the next four years, sales in this region will grow at twice

Auction house Christie's, in the last four years, sold in Dubai, art and jewelry at $ 170 million, planned for the next four-year increase these figures by half. According to Pilkkanena Jussi (Jussi Pylkkanen), president of Christie's Middle East and Europe, these expectations are not too high, since the region is growing interest in the creation of "their" artists. He made the remarks at an exhibition in the Middle East modernism and contemporary art auction house, which opened in Doha, Qatar. At the end of this month's exhibit will travel to Dubai, where they are to be auctioned off.

Since Christie's opened in 2005, an office in Dubai, there have been seven sales. Pilkkanen argues that the growth rate customer base is Middle East they have in the first place. According to the director of Christie's Middle East Isabel de la Bruyères (Isabelle de la Bruyère), the region, as well as China and Russia supplied 30%of new customers.

4 August auction house reported that sales in the first semester of 2010 increased compared to the same period last year, by 46%. For the six months Christie's managed to gain in trading art and antiques 1.71 billion pounds sterling (2.73 billion dollars), while a year earlier, the result amounted to 1,2 billion pounds sterling (In counting the Commission buyer).

Pilkkanen notes that the economic crisis the art market behaves paradoxically. According to him, the value of the works of artists such as Pablo Picasso and Alberto Giacometti, over the past four years has grown by 200%.
