Sotheby's will auction works from the collection of Lehman Brothers
This fall, Sotheby's auction house with the permission of the Court U.S. Bankruptcy will auction works from the collection of U.S. bank Lehman Brothers, the bankrupt on Sept. 15, 2008, as well as one of its branches - Neuberger Berman. They should be held September 25, 2010 in New York. Consumers will be invited more than 400 works of contemporary authors with a total value estimated at more than $ 10 million. All proceeds will be directed to the benefit of creditors of the bank.
Top-lot trades are likely to be the installation by Damien Hirst (Damian Hirst) We've Got Style (The Vessel Collection-Blue) 1993, made in the traditional format for the artist "cabinet". The preliminary cost of this work, which the bank acquired just a year after the establishment, is estimated to be 0,8-1,2 million dollars.
Another valuable product, which will appear at auction - an abstract painting artist Meret Julie (Julie Mehretu) «Untitled 1". The picture was painted in 2001 and in the same year, purchased for the collection of the bank for 21,725 dollars. Now the organizers of the auction, expect for it to rescue up to 800 thousand.
The sale also will be exhibited works by Gerhard Richter (Gerhard Richter), Richard Prince (Richard Prince), John Carrin (John Currin), Takashi Murakami (Takashi Murakami), Neo Rauch (Neo Rauch) and Liu E (Liu Ye).
Some works from the collection of Lehman Brothers (mostly less valuable items) already appeared on open tenders. In November - December 2009 and February 2010, Philadelphia auction house, Freeman's Auctioneers has already held three auctions in which it was possible to rescue the 2.2 million dollars.
