Dutch financier sells his collection
Louis Reytenbah auctioned works of the Impressionists and modernists Sotheby's in New York on 4 and 5 November 39 works from his collection. Their combined estimate is about $ 40 million
Dutch financier Louis Reytenbah (Louis Reijtenbagh) is selling 39 works of impressionists and modernists from his collection. At Sotheby's auction in New York on 4 and 5 November, he exhibited works of Claude Monet (Claude Monet), Degas (Edgar Degas), De Chirico (Giorgio de Chirico) Picasso (Pablo Picasso) and other authors who, according to preliminary estimates, should collectively bring about 40 million dollars.
art dealer from Geneva to Santiago de la Berod (Jacques de la Beraudiere), whose Reytenbah acquired the work for its collection, has confirmed that some pieces in the catalog the November auction Sotheby's in fact belong to the Dutch financier. "I first met him in Paris, and we became good friends - confessed Beroder. - I think that the collection will sell easily, since the estimate is not very high».
This year, Louis Reytenbah was not in the best situation: it sued three companies at once. In March, Credit Suisse Group AG has accused the financier of the deal at the conclusion of the fictitious $ 340 million to fraud. And in April, JPMorgan Chase & Co. and ABN Amro Bank NV, almost simultaneously assert their rights to works from his collection, which he gave as security for two loans ($ 50 million and 52 million euros). Now Reytenbahu not in danger: he was able to satisfy the claims of all three plaintiffs, not to go to trial, but these events seem to have pushed it to a decision on the sale of works from its collection.
As stated in the official statement of Sotheby's, all 39 works owned by the family organization Reytenbaha Monte Carlo Art SA. And since the issue of reimbursement of loans to companies JPMorgan Chase & Co. and ABN Amro Bank NV has been resolved, all work can be freely sold without any claims from these or other banks.
One of the most expensive paintings of this collection - "young Arab" Kees van Dongen (Kees van Dongen) - established in 1920. It is expected that it could bring up to $ 10 million. Another interesting lot - painting by Edgar Degas depicting jockeys on horses, which Reytenbah purchased at auction in 2004 for 4.37 million dollars. At its November auction estimate is between 4 to 6 million dollars.
