Oil on canvas by Claude Monet «Railway bridge in Arzhantee» (1873) sold at Christie's evening auction in New York on May 6, nearly 42 million dollars. The most expensive work of the last bid was written in the early period of the artist. But his «Water lilies», created in 1908, at the creative peak in the same evening moved to a new owner for 12 million dollars.
The second price auction has become a lot sold for 27.5 million dollars in a bronze sculpture by Alberto Giacometti «Large woman standing». In 1960, Giacometti created a series of four bronze sculptures under the same title. At the tender was offered the figure «number two», a height of more than two and a half meters. As conceived by Giacometti, sculpture had to decorate a space in New York, but this plan was never realized.
Over 22.4 million dollars was sold to a third of the price of the lot - «Portrait of a blue Manto» Henri Matisse, which shows the artist's muse - blue-eyed Russian emigrantka Lydia Delektorskaya.
