Vasily (Wilhelm) Alexandrovich Kotarbinsky (1849-1921) — academician of the Imperial Academy of arts. He studied in Warsaw and in Rome. The last thirty years of his life he worked in Kiev, and is buried there. His paintings are represented in collections of the Tretyakov gallery, Russian Museum and etc.
Artist dear. Auction record for his work is $518 000. It was set at Sotheby's in 2005. At the peak of the market large canvases of Vasily Kotarbinsky not just sold in the price range of $250 000-450 000. Now the prices are much lower. Better things on the most expensive auctions in the world are in the area $50 000-80 000.
The Film "Wilhelm Kotarbinsky. Art... to dream," dedicated to the restoration of the painting "the Orgy" (written in the mid 1890-х), which is almost 100 years was in oblivion. Once occupied pride of place in the collection of the Russian Museum in 1917, it was hidden in Museum collections and over the years came in poor condition. The film shows the story of salvation "Orgy" in restoration workshops timing.
