Work, once considered lost, was found under the painting "collective Farm" 1937-1939

The discovery was reported in the small report on youtube-канале the Russian Museum. About that sketch, "Kolkhoznitsa" 1937-1939 there is another image, the Museum staff knew for a long time. For artists 1920-30-х years, constantly experiencing financial difficulties, the re-use of canvases (their own or others) was commonplace. Kuzma Petrov-Водкина this was especially true. The question was, what kind of work was recorded Petrov-Водкиным, whether it belongs to his brush or brush someone-то else? A simple visual inspection of the work was enough to see some unpainted details — hands, clearly not belonging to the kolkhoz. Which meant that underneath the top paint layer, most likely what-то portrait.

a Study in the infrared showed that "Farmers" is considered to be lost portrait of A. S. Pushkin. There is an old photo of this portrait, and it was stated that the work the author did not like and, most of all, he destroyed her. Art historians have come to terms with this loss, because for decades this nearly meter-long canvas was never found. So find the Russian Museum, of course, was a great event for all fans of Kuzma Petrov-Водкина.
