In the famous Cathedral of the Nativity of the virgin in the Vologda region, experts are scanning and photographic images of unique frescoes, preserved in its original form 1502
Report about the successful progress of the works have shown the TV channel "Culture". The frescoes in the Ferapontov monastery, icon painter Dionisy with his sons executed before Michelangelo painted the Sistine chapel. This is the only place in Russia where works have survived intact, with no renovations. Now experts with modern equipment busy digitizing 600 square meters of murals, containing about 300 murals.
it is a three-dimensional imaging of the surface. The scanner is accurate to one micron recreates the surface to a depth of two centimeters. Further high resolution images will be uploaded to the cloud for researchers, and after the treatment, the specialists are going to prepare a virtual tour of the Cathedral to a wider audience.
