However, the whereabouts of the second version, written in Naples, not heard anything since the beginning of the XVII century. The latest evidence of a second embodiment of the painting "Judith and Holofernes" refers to the 1607: Dutch artist Frans the Younger Pourbus (Frans Pourbus the Younger) has mentioned in his letter that he saw the famous work by Caravaggio in the Studio of artist Louis Finson (Louis Finson). And here, centuries later, the second work "Judith and Holofernes" seems to have been in France in a private collection.

In banning the text of the document States that the painting "Judith and Holofernes" 1600-1610, has exceptional artistic qualities and that it may be a long lost creation of Caravaggio, which is indirect evidence. While its attribution, the work will be held in France.

However, an expert on Caravaggio, Mina Gregori (Mina Gregori) stated that he did not see was found in France in the hands of masters. However, some of the last of attributions Gregory were erroneous, — notes Le Figaro.
In the coming weeks the painting will be examined by Italian experts on Caravaggio Giuseppe Porzio (Porzio, Giuseppe) and Maria Cristina Terzaghi (Maria Cristina Terzaghi).
