Anish Kapoor was given exclusive rights to the black pigment in the world. Other sculptors are outraged
Vantablack — pigment that absorbs 99.96% of light and considered the black pigment in the world, in addition to masking of satellites and fighter jets will now be used in the sculptures of Anish Kapoor
British sculptor of Indian descent Anish Kapoor received the exclusive rights to use in their works the black pigment in the world — Vantablack. This pigment that absorbs up to 99.96% of light, was developed in 2014 by company NanoSystems, located in Surrey, for aerospace and aviation industries (for masking of satellites and fighter jets "stealth"). Now pigment Vantablack can use and only artist — Kapoor: company representative NanoSystems confirmed that the sculptor has exclusive rights.
Such a statement naturally caused a storm of protest from other sculptors who are not indifferent to the color black. "I never heard that the artist was able to monopolize what-то material. Use the pure black color in the work gives it solidity. All great artists were arguing from-за pure black — Turner, Manet, Goya. This is like black dynamite in the world of art. We should have the right to use it. It should not be owned by one person", — complains Ferr Christian, the young author when-либо wrote the official portraits of Queen Elizabeth. Now Ferr planned to use Vantablack in his new series of paintings "Animals".
Vantablack absorbs so much light that the human eye is unable to distinguish between shadows, giving the brain the understanding of the shape of the object. As a result coated with these paints wrinkled foil seems to be almost flat. Anish Kapoor and has previously achieved this effect using very other black pigments — for example, in the series "Descent Into Limbo" ("Descent into Hell"), when painted on the floor the black circle created the illusion of a gaping abyss.
Anish Kapoor in anticipation of the new possibilities, which make the black pigment: "He is so black that you almost can't see. He's got some-то unreal quality, and I've always been a supporter of all sorts of exotic materials from-за that they make you feel. Imagine a space so dark that, passing it, you lose all sense of time and understanding of you and who you are. What-то is going on with your emotional "I", and in this confusion you have to look for that-то new in itself".
it is Known that specialist Nasa has already created an analogue of pigment Vantablack, however, the company NanoSystems is the first who is allowed to release the pigment in the mass market.
