On the basis of one of Moscow oldest power plant HPP-2 on Bolotnaya embankment will house a new Museum and education center of modern art by Renzo Piano, the designer of the Pompidou Centre in Paris. The project has been presented on 7 October the mayor of Moscow Sergey Sobjanina@
it is planned To create Academy of contemporary art with a total area of 30 700 sq. m. providing for the restoration of cultural heritage — buildings of the Central power station of the city tram, renovation of buildings and new construction area of 11 100 sq m@
the Main emphasis in the space is to be laid on the training and the awakening of interest in modern culture. Educational orientation will correspond to an extensive exhibition programme. It is expected that the new complex will start till 2018 and will receive up to 750 thousand people in God@
Central power station of the city tram — later GES-2 was built in the years 1904-1908 by architect Bashkirov and was situated near the Small Stone bridge, on the Bank of a Drainage channel. Before the construction of the massive "House on embankment" the architecture of the composite plant was connected with the Cathedral of Christ the Savior and the Kremlin.
