Workers restavrirovannye the facade of one of the old houses in the town of Pushkin, made the unusual discovery: in a secret niche between the wall and the ledge they found a picturesque portrait of a young man — presumably the crown Prince Alexei. Finding donated to the Museum "Tsarskoye Selo"
an Unusual find was made by workers restavrirovannye facade the house № 10 along the Sadovaya street in the town of Pushkin. Dismantling the external cornice, between the wall and the ledge they found a niche. There were rolled into a roll of canvas, wrapped Newspapers of 1917 – 1918 and pressed on top of old bricks. On canvas – oil-painted portrait of a young man, presumably the crown Prince Alexei (1904 – 1918). The find was donated to the Museum-reserve "Tsarskoye Selo".
Canvas (85 x 67 cm) in poor condition, with numerous creases and a small broken fragment. In the lower right corner is the signature of the artist: two capital letters "P" and then illegible. We can assume that the author wrote with photos of 1913-1914. Apparently, after the revolutionary events of 1917 to the owner it became dangerous to keep at home the image of the son of Emperor Nicholas II, he took the canvas from the stretcher and hid it. A "case" for the portrait became the rooms of the newspaper "Russkaya Volya" (April 1917), "the Evening" (August 1917), "modern times" (August 1917), "Evening lights" (June 1918).
Cache discovered almost a century later workers (work performs research and restoration company "Mir", the restoration project has been agreed with KGIOP) Artem Pilipeiko, Viktor Tishchenko, Ivan Kyrgyz and handed portrait and Newspapers to the Museum staff. It is symbolic that this happened in the year of the 400th anniversary of the House Romanovich@
