Tonight at the Tretyakov Gallery will be a presentation of the monograph "The geniuses of war, good and beauty. Wrote Royal Academician George Dow ", released on the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812.

In the year of the bicentenary of the victory in the Patriotic War of 1812 in Russia carried out a fundamental international research project - the publication of the first monograph The British artist George Doe (1781-1829). The project was implemented for over twenty years and includes many of the world. As a result, collected valuable historical material, which allowed the crumbs to recreate a rich creative history of one of the key figures of the European artistic life of the first half of the XIX century, the extraordinary creative individual, formerly known mainly to the establishment of the famous Military Gallery of the Winter Palace.

George Dawe wide interests linked it with the brightest people of his time, the royals, secular and intellectual elite. Gorgeous engraver, author of Fine book illustrations, historical and literary compositions, writer and theorist, beautiful portrait Dow left a unique series of more than 500 portraits of his contemporaries, "genius of war, good and beauty" - the military and government officials, scholars, thinkers, poets, secular beauties. Dow created portraits of literary geniuses - Goethe, Coleridge, Pushkin, generals Barclay de Tolly, the Duke of Wellington, Kutuzov, the generals - members of military companies in 1812-1814, the canonical image of Alexander I, the coronation portraits of Nicholas I and Alexandra Feodorovna, portraits of prominent educator and statesman figure NP Rumyantsev, a collector of Egyptian antiquities FA Tolstoy and many others.

The English version of the publication was presented at the National Portrait Gallery in London in November 2012.
