Work Alighieri Boetti (Alighiero E Boetti)« 1984 », previously estimated at 1.2-1.8 million pounds, is collected along the pencil sketches of 192 magazine covers, published in 1984. Boetti Alighieri (1940-1994) is considered one of the most influential Italian artists of the twentieth century. The work of "1984", consisting of six panels that are attached drawings, never previously exhibited for sale.
Boetti was a key figure in the Italian movement Poor man (Arte Povera), brought together in the late 1960s, young Italian artists, they worked in a radical and innovative manner and used to create works of art are simple, everyday materials. They argued in his work of pure organic aesthetics.
Boetti is best known for a series of large-scale embroidered world maps, entitled «Mappa», as well as the works of pop art, for which he used stamps and all of the same magazine covers.
Boetti Alighieri wrote the first series of pencil drawings based on the covers in the late 1970s. Such work can be found in the Italian permanent collection of MOMA museum in New York York. The work that will soon be sold at Bonhams, - first a collage of magazine covers Boetti, and very impressive size - 9 x 2 meters. Later, in 1988, 1989 and 1990, Boetti created three more of these collages. All of them are now in the collections of major public museums.
