After three years of restoration has managed to reduce the weight of sculptures by 70 kilograms
Florentine lab Opificio delle Pietre Dure restored terra-cotta sculpture of 1570" Madonna and Child "of the Renaissance master Jacopo Sansovino (Jacopo Sansovino). Sculpture, 122 cm tall pre-disassembled into 20 parts, work on its restoration took three years.
To determine the degree of damage to the work before its restoration was examined by X-ray and CT scan.
As it turned out, the hardest hit product Sansovino from previous failed restorations. Once it appears, accidentally broken, and the masters of sculpture put together with nails and screws, and on top caused the plaster, which changed the shape and color work. In addition, its attached to a solid wooden base.
As the head of the restoration laboratory Isabella Lapi Ballerini (Isabella Lapi Ballerini), is now a sculpture weighs 50 kilograms. Before the experts have removed a wooden stand, pulled out nails and screws, it was up to 70 pounds heavier. Replaced by a lightweight wooden base made of carbon fiber.
Restored masterpiece Sansovino return to the Museum of Vicenza.
