In the UK, has begun raising money to "rescue for the nation," paintings by Brueghel
Last week the British National Foundation (National Trust) and the Foundation of Arts (Art Fund) started raising funds to purchase paintings by Pieter Brueghel the Younger "Procession to Calvary", which the owner wants to put up for auction. Cost of linen is 2.7 million pounds sterling. Endowment for the Arts has allocated 500 thousand, the remaining amount will be collected before Christmas.
Painting, written by Bruegel in 1602, depicts a procession of more than 200 pieces on the background of contemporary Flemish landscape. More than two hundred years, it is stored in the Nostell Priory (County West Yorkshire), being its main exhibit. Lawful owner of, however, is Lord St Oswald.
That the British penetrated the greatness of masterpieces by Brueghel, from October 5 to November 9, it will display at London's National Gallery, and from 18 November to Christmas - Art Gallery of York.
