New Museum of Eli Brody
American billionaire and permanent figurant list of "Top-10 main collectors of the world" Eli Broad (Eli Broad) finally determined the place for his private museum. He plans to lease land on Grant Avenue in Los Angeles, a stone's throw from the distinguished Museum of Modern Art (ILAC) and the fantastic Walt Disney Concert Hall, built by Frank Gehry (Frank Gehry). 99-year lease will cost Brody in 7,7 million dollars, in addition, it will provide 80-100 million for the construction of buildings and about 200 million at current expenditure agencies. Construction will begin next spring and be completed in late 2012-th.
In the museum's collection will include more than two thousand works of postwar and contemporary art. It is interesting that even in 2007, Broad said that he was going to give work to some other institution, the most likely candidates Art Museum, Los Angeles County (LACMA), which is supported by a collector for many years. He even gave 60 million for the construction of the Museum of Modern Art spouses Broad, who became part of the complex LACMA. That museum, which became legendary architect Renzo Piano (Renzo Piano), just recently opened - in 2008. But the collector changed his opinion for the simple reason that none of the existing museums do not have large enough space to display the entire collection. According to Brody, he did not relish the prospect of seeing most of his treasures languishing in storage.
The collection consists of high-Brody works by many titans of twentieth century art, including Andy Warhol (Andy Warhol) Roy Lichtenstein (Roy Lichtenstein), Jasper Johns (Jasper Johns), John Baldessari (John Baldessari), and Richard Serra (Richard Serra). Since mid-1980 collector lent to exhibitions in the total amount of about seven thousand works, which saw more than a hundred million people. Among other merits Brody - rescue the bankrupt museum ILAC, which he donated 30 million dollars.
Museum Brody will design firm Diller, Scofidio Renfro. Among their projects - the new building of the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston.
