Modernism is more concerned with the soul, than the works of old masters

Why did people go to museums? Because there exhibited works of art provide food mind and excite the heart. But, as recently discovered, researchers from the University of Rome, the museum exhibits affect people differently. It turns out that in the perception of art by old masters more involved intellect, and in the perception of modernism - the emotions.

The results were published in the journal Psychology of aesthetics, creativity and art. " Representatives of the University, headed by Stefano Mastandrea (Stefano Mastandrea) interviewed 137 visitors to two museums in Rome: Braschi (the art of the second half of XVI - first half of the XIX century) and the National Gallery of Modernism and Contemporary Art (end XIX - first half of XX century). Survey respondents completed the questionnaire, where they were asked about what prompted them to come in that day in the museum, as well as answer questions about yourself.

The majority of respondents were women, and those who came to the National Gallery, were on average 10 years younger guests Braschi. The level of education among the visitors of both museums was approximately the same.

The most popular answers to the question about the causes of a hike in the museum in both cases were "interest in the work of artists" and "desire to live to see the works of art." But second place in the "hit parade" of incentives among the guests of the National Gallery took a "desire to take pleasure in visiting the museum," and those who came in Braschi, - "the desire to raise the cultural level».

Many respondents stated that they were characterized by such features as "open to everything new." But visitors to the museum of modern art more often noted that tend to look for new sensations. When respondents were given a list of ten emotions and were asked to indicate those that they experienced while viewing the exhibition, it became clear that absolutely all the emotions are more common in those who have come to admire the works of the modernists.

The researchers published another finding that is sure to please the directors of both museums: the overwhelming majority of respondents said they were satisfied with the visit.
