On Monday, the Court of Appeal Oslo sentenced 41-year-old Biørn Henu (Bjoern Hoen), one of the participants in the abduction of masterpieces by Edward Munch (Edvard Munch) «Creek» and «Madonna». The offender was sentenced to two and a half years in prison.

In addition, the court ordered Henu and the city of Oslo Taraldsenu pay compensation of 750 million kroons (120 million dollars). The convicts appealed.

In connection with the discovery of the paintings of compensation was reduced to 1.57 million kroons (263 thousand dollars) - that way was to estimate the value of restoration work. However, prison sentences were increased. Chen was accused of organizing the crime and sentenced to nine years in prison. Taraldsen was nine and a half years - has proved that he was involved in another robbery. In addition, another was convicted offender - Shkeld Stian (Stian Skjold). He kept the museum staff at the fly, while his accomplice snatch pictures from the walls. Shkeld was sentenced to five and a half years in prison. During the investigation it became known that the other robber died in November 2006 from overdoses of heroin.
In 2008, the Norwegian Supreme Court changed the sentence again: Shkeld got six years, Taraldsen - ten and a half. At the same time, the court questioned the credibility of the testimony of one man, to testify against Bjørn Hena. According to Hena, its role in the robbery was limited in that it gave offenders a car. The fact that they are going to steal from the museum's paintings by Munch, he did not know. Case re-convict was sent to the Court of Appeal, which confirmed that the recognition of his organizing crimes evidence is not sufficient. As a result, the hearing was issued a new verdict. The court reduced the Henu up to two and a half years, and released him from the payment of compensation.
Villains have been Munch masterpieces very bad. They say that the pictures were stored in the bus a long time on the farm under the Oslo accords. They were found in deplorable condition: the «Creek» was podloman angle (work done on cardboard), and the «Madonna» tore the canvas. In addition, both the painting was covered with stains and scratches. Fortunately, the restorers managed to «cure» priceless pieces, and 23 May 2008 they were again on display in the Munch Museum.
