rare etching the famous Flemish painter Peter Paul Rubens (Peter Paul Rubens) in explanation of the work of Leonardo da Vinci «Last Supper» was recently discovered in an Italian private collection. He fell into the hands of experts, when his owner, a psychologist from Rome, has been inherited from his father 12 years ago, turned to them for help to assess the then-anonymous works.
The experts believe that Rubens created this etching while in Italy, where he studied Greek and Roman art, copy the masterpieces of Renaissance masters, but also painted portraits and altars to order. He also hired engravers who made copies of his own paintings.
The last mention of etching on the «Last Supper» found in the book in 1836 on classical engravings, and, according to experts, this is one of the few prints that Rubens has fulfilled himself.
