The book by Mikhail Lifshitz «Why I do not modernist?» collected texts about the fate of art - as long ago have become classics, and forgotten in old periodicals, and never published.

Mikhail Lifshits (1905-1983), an outstanding specialist in the aesthetics of Hegel and Marx, was the most merciless critic of the twentieth century modernist art. A student of legendary VHUTEMASa in 1920, he broke with the avant-garde project, and declared him a war in the mid 1920's. Published them in 1968, the book «The crisis of ugliness» and remains unique in the depth and sequence analysis of the text of cubism and pop art.

Bright stylist, Lifshits not looking for attenuating the language - on the contrary, aggravates his thought is always to the limit. If 20 years ago, the Soviet-era izlete Lifshitz submitted to the general reader mrakobesnym Soviet dogmatist, but today his intellectual legacy looks like a sentence agonizing postmodernism, much ahead of his time.
