French President Nicolas Sarkozy said he wants to conclude an agreement for Singapore to works of art from the Louvre and other French museums
French President Nicolas Sarkozy (Nicolas Sarkozy) has recently said that would conclude an agreement with Singapore to provide it for a temporary exhibition of works of art from the Louvre and other French museums. A similar contract two years ago, has already been signed with the United Arab Emirates.
Speaking Nime city in the south of France, Sarkozy said: «If Singapore did the same thing [as the UAE. - Ed .] it would be great». He also added: «zeal to keep our cultural treasures for themselves - not in our rules».
In 2007, the Government of Jacques Chirac, Sarkozy's predecessor, (Jacques Chirac) has signed an agreement to open a branch of the Louvre in Abu Dhabi. Under its terms, in addition to obtaining works from French museums, institutions Emirates now have the opportunity to enjoy the expertise of new acquisitions and the management of French specialists. Provision of these services will allow France to get in the next 30 years, an additional profit of 1 billion euros. Despite such obvious advantages, few French curators then denounced this move, which in their view, lead to the commercialization of the cultural heritage of the country.
