In November 2009, plans to open a new building being built by the architect Rick Matera (Rick Mather). Its construction began in 2006 and almost did not affect the old building so that visitors have access to the exhibit. But in 2009 a draft provides a more extensive work: the building of a new portal and the construction of crossings between the buildings. After the upgrade, which will cost 61 million pounds, the museum will be 39 new galleries, education center and the first cafe in Oxford on the roof.

Ashmolin The museum was founded in 1683 and is one of the oldest in the world. It uses art and antiques, created by mankind over four thousand years: from ancient Egypt, Greece and Rome to the Italian Renaissance and European art of the XX century. It exhibits paintings, sculpture, glassware and ceramics, coins and even musical instruments.
