Bucharest Museum returns Goya engraving son Ceausescu
Bucharest Court of Appeal ordered the National Museum of Art by heirs of the late dictator Nicolae Ceausescu, two prints of Francisco Goya, and 15 paintings
to the heirs of Romanian dictator Nicolae Ceausescu to return artworks confiscated by the state. These works from 1989 were in a special museum store. Litigation for collection of the dictator has taken several years, said Reuters.
Collection of Ceausescu was confiscated to the state immediately after the revolution of 1989. The dictator and his wife Elena were executed by order of the military tribunal on 25 December 1989 in the town of Targovishte. Previously, it was reported that the painting and the prints were not very Nicolae Ceausescu, and his eldest son, Nick, died in 1996. Issue with the museum was Valentin Ceausescu, son Nicholas and Helena.
Decision of the Appeal Court of Bucharest finalized. This agency Reuters reported lawyer Valentin Ceausescu. «We eventually came to the right decision ... After several years of trials the property has finally been returned to their rightful owners», - he said.
He also told the court decision of 15 paintings (including works by Romanian artists) and the two etchings Goya, which are now stored in the Bucharest National Museum of Art.
