Windows Manhattan Gallery, New York art dealer Escher Edelman (Asher Edelman) is now covered with graffiti, which usually can be seen in shop windows of fashion boutiques: «Holiday Super Sale!», «Crazy Prices !»... Until 21 December Edelman Arts Gallery offers customers discounts of 25 to 50 per cent on works of such recognized masters of the XX century, as Willem de Kuninga (Willem de Kooning) and Alberto Giacometti (Alberto Giacometti), as well as the work of contemporary artists. The picture of Jean-Michel Basque (Jean-Michel Basquiat), who last year was offered for 6.5 million dollars, you can now buy from 48,5 per cent discount, for only 3,35 million dollars. Or, for example, the price of nerasprodannye paintings of Berlin artist Christopher Winter (Christopher Winter), exhibition gallery which has just ended, down 40 percent. «There are dealers offering discounts. Simply, I say this openly », - Asher Edelman acknowledged.

It should be noted however, that advertising discounts, and the disclosure of prices has always been one of the taboo art market. Typically, lowering the cost of going on in private: in the primary market, many galleries offer a 10 per cent discount, while the major collectors and museums often receive 20 per cent discount from the bid. «We do not shop. We are not satisfied with sales », - has insisted the dealer Richard Feige (Richard Feigen), which specializes in the works of old masters and post-war art.

And yet, many dealers in the financial crisis are trying to increase sales. «Now is the time when people go shopping in search of gifts for family members and friends, and I am sure that many try to earn on this», - considers the artist Thomas Beale (Thomas Beale). A non-profit gallery Honey Space in Chelsea, based Bilom last year, will hold a three-day sale, with 18 to 20 December. In order to spur the interest of potential buyers, Beal sent out an e-mail message to the advertising of 25 beginners and recognized artists. Prices, which it identifies, surprise: from 10 to 999 dollars! «On the one hand, it reflects the current situation in the economy.
