In Ukraine, police found a picture of Caravaggio, stolen from the Odessa Museum of Western and Oriental Art , announced on 6 December the Ukrainian weekly publication «Mirror of the week», referring to sources close to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.
According to unconfirmed information, the organizer of the abduction, the scent of which came investigators several months ago, was killed.
Cloth «Taking Christ into custody, or the Kiss of Judas» was stolen from the collection in July 2008. It was only the work of Italian artist, visited the Ukrainian collections and the cost was estimated to be worth up to $ 100 million. On the preservation of paintings found nothing reported.
Cloth stored in Odessa, is one of the options for pictures and dates from about 1598 a year. A more popular version of «taking Christ into custody» dates from the year 1602 and is kept in Dublin, the Irish National Gallery. After the revolution in painting from the collection of Grand Duke Vladimir Alexandrovich was transferred to Odessa Art School, from which came to the Museum of Western and Oriental art.
The authenticity of the painting was installed by Soviet art in 1950 and in 2005 was confirmed by Spanish experts.
