In the 2007/2008 year, the Tate collection has increased by 494 of the total cost of 63.1 million pounds (112 million dollars). 320 of them in the gallery received a gift from collectors and artists, or inherited. At the press conference also discussed the plans for the future. Among the new Tate - opening a new wing for the Tate Modern, which is hoped to guide the museum would be completed by the summer Olympics in 2012. According to Tate director Nicholas Seroty (Nicholas Serota), «it would be great to fully collect the required amount before the start of construction, but it is hardly possible». In 2009, from 18 February to 17 May at Tate Britain will host exhibition «Van Dyke and the UK» (Van Dyck and Britain), which will be presented paintings, drawings and miniatures made by the Flemish master during his stay in England. A two portraits of Charles I, written by Antonius van Dyck, to provide exposure is Queen Elizabeth II.
Another interesting exhibition is planned for next year will be devoted to William Turner (Joseph Mallord William Turner) and will be held from September 23, 2009 to January 2010 at Tate Britain.
