Saving Titian would cost one hundred million pounds
Two paintings by Titian might be put up for sale, if their owner - the Duke of Sutherland - will not be paid 100 million pounds
The Duke of Sutherland, one of the wealthiest Britons, ready to give up the treasury, two pictures, painted by the Renaissance painter Titian, for 100 million pounds (184 million dollars). If these funds will not be collected, the Duke put paintings on sale. According to The Times, their total value amounts to 300 million pounds (552 million dollars)
The first 50 million pounds need to be collected until 31 December 2008 in order to save pictures «Diana and Acteon», exhibited at the National Gallery of Scotland in Edinburgh. A further 50 million British will need to save for four years - for the sake of canvases «Diana and Callisto», temporarily stored in the same museum.
