From 14 to 18 May in a joint project between the auction house «Christie» and the State Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow, held a unique display of more than twenty masterpieces, which will be the stars of summer auctions «Christie» in London. For the first time in Russia will be represented by a collection of works prerafaelitov. This is the artistic direction of the Victorian era, experts called the first British over who have attained world fame.

The exhibition will consist of two parts: English prerafaelitov painting, as well as Russian paintings of XIX - beginning of the twentieth century.

«Brotherhood prerafaelitov» (also known as prerafaelity) was founded in 1848 and was made up of British artists, writers and critics protesting the academic tradition and considered a model for replication of early Italian Renaissance art (up to Rafael). Its founders were John Everett Millet, Dante Gabriel Rossetti, William Hunt Hill.

Art prerafaelitov became popular in Russia at the turn of XIX-XX centuries, in particular with their creativity acquainted its readers the magazine «world of art».

We know that the Empress Alexandra Feodorovna (wife of Nicholas II and the granddaughter of Queen Victoria) prerafaelitov admired art and her personal chambers Alexander Palace in Tsarskoe Selo decorated with two canvases painted by one of the representatives of the current, Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema, whose work will be presented at the exhibition.

Despite the popularity of creativity prerafaelitov in Russia, this exhibit of paintings of this trend, has not yet happened.

Among the exhibited paintings by Russian artists - the work of Isaac Levitan, Natalia Goncharova, Mikhail Larionov, Vladimir Baranov, Rossini and other famous Russian artists.
