In 1917 he enrolled in city College in Barnaul. He studied at the classical school of Barnaul, in the Altai provincial art studios (1918-1921) А. О. Никулина, М. И. Курзина, Е. Л. Коровай. In 1922 he moved to Petrograd. He continued his education at the Petrograd (Leningrad) art-промышленном College (1922-1927) М. И. Авилова, Е. Д. Белухи, В. Н. Левитского, А. Р. Эберлинга.

he Lived in Leningrad (now St.-Петербурге). In 1928 he became friendly with a circle of disciples К. С. Малевича — В. М. Ермолаевой, Н. О. Коган, В. В. Стерлиговым and others that had a significant influence on the formation of his creative manner. He painted landscapes, genre scenes; worked a lot in watercolour and gouache, monotypes. Engaged in book illustration. Created graphic series: "a Walk" (1933; watercolor), "Work and leisure in the farm" (1935-1941, 1946-1961; watercolor), "In the garden" (1956; ink), "On the street" (1956; Sepia), "Landscapes of Leningrad and its suburbs" (1958-1961; colored monotype).

In 1928 to 1933 he worked in the editorial art Detgiz under the leadership В. В. Лебедева then worked in various publishing houses of Leningrad. Issued books: "Igranka" Г. О. Куклина (1929), "Emocity from the Altai mountains" О. Ф. Берггольц (1934), "favorites" В. В. Иванова (2 тт., 1937), "the End of the road" М.-А. Нексе (1940), "the ordeal" А. Н. Толстого (1940), "Russian boy" В. А. Каверина (1946), "Works" (2 тт., 1957) and "Poems" (1961) А. А. Прокофьева and others. Wrote and illustrated the book "Family pictures" (1982).

From 1930 he worked in the government OUT. In 1934 he was arrested in the case В. М. Ермолаевой and В. В. Стерлигова accused of anti-Soviet activities, but soon released. The participant of the great Patriotic war.

he Exhibited his works at exhibitions: 1-я exhibition of Leningrad artists (1935), 6-я exhibition of works by Leningrad artists (1940), exhibition of book graphics 1950-1953 (1953), Autumn exhibitions of Leningrad artists (1956, 1958), 4-й, 5-й, 6-й exhibitions of Leningrad book graphic art (1959, 1962, 1965) in Leningrad, the exhibition of watercolours, drawings by Leningrad artists in Kiev (1938), exhibition of graphics of Leningrad artists in Pskov (1940). Held a personal exhibition in Leningrad (1940).

Retrospective exhibitions of the artist were held in Saint-Петербурге (1996) and Nizhny Tagil (2009).

Work is represented in major Museum collections, including the State Russian Museum, State Tretyakov gallery, the Pushkin Museum im. А. С. Пушкина State art Museum of Altai Krai and others.
