the Son of a statesman, Admiral Н. С. Мордвинова. Formal artistic education is not received. In 1832-1833 was in Venice, Rome, Naples. On his return to St. Petersburg began to seriously pursue painting; the advice М. Н. Воробьева.

he Painted landscapes, interiors, still lifes; worked a lot in watercolors. Author of painting works: "the Grand canal in Venice", "Bay of Naples", "the Quay degli Schiavoni in Venice", "the Sea, illuminated by the sunlight", "Morning in Venice". Created still lifes-"dummy" with plaster and marble bas-reliefs, playing cards.

In 1837, is recognized as honorary free member of the Imperial Academy of arts. In the same year gave the Academy his painting "View of Naples". In 1838 he made a trip to the Crimea. In the second half of 1840-х and 1850-х traveled through Europe, lived in Italy. Participated in exhibitions of the Imperial Academy of arts.

In 1834 with his father was elevated to the Ducal dignity. The valid councillor of state. Honorary member of the St-Петербургского Philharmonic society (1832).

he was Buried at Lazarevskoye cemetery of the Alexander Nevsky-Невской Lavra in St. Petersburg.

Work is represented in many Museum collections, including the State Russian Museum, State Hermitage Museum, Science-исследовательском Museum of the Russian Academy of arts, the State Tretyakov gallery and others.
