From the townspeople. Studied in MUZHVZ (1883-1893), first as a volunteer, from 1885 —, the permanent student, В. Е. Маковского, В. Д. Поленова, В. Е. Сорокина. In 1889 and for 1890 sketch for the drawings from nature small awarded silver medals. In 1893, for the painting "Marina" received a large silver medal and the title of the class artist.

he Lived in Moscow, and the village of Lebedyan, Tambov province Soscoe; hereditary honorary citizen of the city of Lebedyan. In 1880-90-е travelled in the Crimea and Ukraine. Worked primarily as a landscape painter. Author of painting works: "Road", "Dal", "Grey day", "On the land", "Rye", "Spring sea" (all — 1880-е), "Black sea", "Chufut-Ламбат. Crimea", "Novorossiysk", "Sea view", "Bottom", "the Palace of the Emir Shir-Бедек", "Pechora", "Libby-Гаус. Dia-Беги (Reservoir in Bukhara)", "River Vishera Ural" (all — 1890-е), "night In the wilderness", "Samarkand. The dreams of Ulugbek", "On the Volga", "City of Lebedyan", "Evening", "Twilight" (all — 1900-е) and others.

From 1884 — participant of exhibitions (the Moscow school of painting, student). Exhibited associations: society for circulating art exhibitions (1890-1903, with interruptions), the Moscow society of art lovers (1890-1908, with interruptions), the Moscow fellowship of artists (1895), the society of South Russian artists (1899, 1901). Zaretsky's work was also exhibited paintings by Moscow fans-коллекционеров in St. Petersburg (1910), "Artists — fellow soldiers" in Moscow (1914).
