From 1896 he studied at the Faculty of Moscow University. At the same time engaged in the workshop Korovin and Valentin Serov (in MUZHVZ (?)). In 1907, on the advice of Korovin went to Paris, where he continued his artistic education at the studios F. Kolarossi, Henri Matisse, the Academy A. Vitti from E. Anglada and, apparently, in Academy of La Palette by C. Guerin. In 1910 he returned to Russia. In 1910-1911 again worked under the guidance Korovin.

lived in Moscow. He painted landscapes, still lifes, portraits, genre paintings of content. Participated in exhibitions of the Moscow Association of Artists (1906-1907), THPV (1911), "Moscow Salon" (1913-1915). Member and exponential associations "Free Art" (1912-1915, in 1915-1922 - chairman), "The Knave of Diamonds" (1916-1917, treasurer), "Modern Painting" (1916-1918, 1922).

In the first years of Soviet power continued to work actively. Was responsible for Presnensky district for the holiday 1 st of May (1918), the Theater Square to the III International Congress (1919). Served as the scenery for the theater Presnensky district, participated in the opening of the Moscow Theater for Young Spectators (1918). Gave one of the founders of the museum Presnensky district.

In 1920-30's led classes on painting in his own studio on the street Spiridonovka, led by an art studio at the Museum of Fine Arts. In the late 1930's he taught at the Moscow Institute of applied and decorative arts.

Vagankovsky buried at a cemetery in Moscow.

Kuznetsova works are in several museum collections, among them - the State Tretyakov Gallery, Nizhny Novgorod State Art Museum, Chelyabinsk Region Picture Gallery, and others.
