born in a family of academician ornamental sculptures PI Brullo, brother artists KP and F. Briullov. Original art education received at home. In 1810-1820 he studied under Alexander Mikhailov in the architectural class of IAH in St. Petersburg as a student paying students, ie, to pay tuition fees. In 1816, for drawing from nature was awarded a small silver medal in 1819 for architectural composition - a large silver medal. In December 1820 release from the Academy with a certificate of degree 1 and the title of the class artist.

In early 1821 included the Commission on the restructuring of St. Isaac's Cathedral. In 1822, together with K. Bryullov went to Italy as a pensioner of the Society to promote artists. He settled in Rome. He traveled the cities of Italy, traveled to the south, where did the term in the measurements of ancient Pompeii. I turned to the genre of watercolor portrait.

In 1826-1829 he lived in Paris, traveled to London and Switzerland. In 1829, published in Paris album "The Baths of Pompeii." In the same year he returned to St. Petersburg. In 1830, for the project invalid at home and a portrait of PP Lopuchin awarded the title of academician. In the same year was appointed court architect. Since 1831 he taught at IAH, in 1832 was elected professor of architecture degree 2, 1842 - Professor of Architecture 1-st degree, in 1853 - Professor Emeritus. Served in the IAH. He was a member of the Milan Academy of Arts and a corresponding member of the Academy of Fine Arts in Paris.

in the 1830 - 1840 Project Bryullov were lined Mikhailovsky Theater (1831-1833), Lutheran Church of St. Peter on Nevsky Prospect (1833-1838), Pulkovo Observatory (1834-1839 ), HQ Guards Corps on the Palace Square (1838-1840) in St. Petersburg. Bryullov Alexander - one of the leading representatives of historicism in architecture and arts and crafts of the mid XIX century, emerged as a talented stylist. Works of Alexander Bryullov are in many museums and private collections, among them State Russian Museum, State Tretyakov Gallery, Pushkin Museum im. Pushkin and others.
