In 1851 joined the IAH, studied in the class battle-painting at BP Villevalde. For student work often celebrated with medals: in 1854 - a small silver, 1857 - a large silver, 1858 - a small silver, 1860 - a small gold for the painting "gypsies", 1862 - a big gold for the painting "The Capture of Gunib in the Caucasus in 1859. In the same year, released from the Academy with the rank of class artist 1-th degree and a pensioner's right to travel abroad for six years.

in 1863 as a pensioner IAH went to Paris. Traveled well as Italy, Germany and Austria. Carried out a number of genre paintings ( "Market in the Fontainebleau," "Dance of the Italians on a street in Paris"), which apparently made little impression on the Council of IAH, for from it followed an order "to deal exclusively with batalicheskoy painting. In 1865 traveled to the Caucasus to write sketches for the painting "The abandonment of mountain people village at the approach of Russian troops", for which in 1872 was awarded the title of academician. In 1869 pensionerstva term was extended for three years.

After returning home in 1872 he settled in St. Petersburg. Many worked under orders of the royal family and the imperial court. Repeated visits to the Volga and the south of Russia. Participated in exhibitions of IAH and the Society for the Encouragement of Artists (Fine Arts). In 1876, exhibited his paintings at the World Exhibition in Philadelphia.

Georgian - notable representative of the Russian academic school of the second half of XIX century - is known primarily as a master of battle painting. However, it is incorrect to speak of him as a master of one genre: the artist worked as an animal painter and landscape artist, creating paintings of everyday subjects, turned to the magazine illustrations. It works closely intertwined features of the academic and realist influences.

Works of Georgia are in many museum collections in Russia, including the State Tretyakov Gallery, State Russian Museum, the Scientific Research Museum of Russia Academy of Arts.
